Issues of sustainability have always been at the heart of Procol’s approach to the design and specification of office and technical environments. We’re also advocates of the the idea that sustainable business means better business. We were therefore keen to attend Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Sustainability Forum Breakfast on 10 November 2015 and become signatories to the Wiltshire Declaration on Climate Change.
The event was organised by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, a founder member of the Wiltshire and Swindon Climate Action Network (WiltSCAN). WiltSCAN provides support and encouragement, enables the sharing of ideas and good news stories, and helps in coordinating activities and actions that will tackle climate change.
The focus of event was to support the Wiltshire Declaration on Climate Change. The Declaration is a commitment to act, promote and share experience of low-carbon achievements – something we at Procol are actively involved in.
Rising to the challenge – and opportunity – of climate change
A key element of our work to create professional working environments for our clients is the specification and implementation of state-of-the-art environmental solutions and facilities-based green technologies that deliver reduced running costs and contribute to our clients’ carbon objectives. We also practice what we preach in all of our wholly owned serviced-office buildings, where our tenants enjoy the benefits of the technologies we have put in place.
Procol directors Nick Denning and Roy Bertuello attended the breakfast and added our name to the growing list of signatories which includes businesses, public bodies and organisations from across the region. The Declaration states:
We recognise both the threat of climate change, and the new opportunities of the low carbon economy, offering energy security, long term jobs, prosperity and protection of our wildlife and countryside. Wiltshire and Swindon with their history of advanced manufacturing, innovation, creativity, and strong communities, are well-placed to take the lead and to reap the rewards of so doing.
We support the legal UK target of an 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050, and commit to contributing our share by reducing the carbon footprint of our own organisations. We will work together to share experience and promote low carbon action.
